Villa Orsini hosted the Naples Seabee Ball 2025

An evening of feasting and celebration

On March 8, Villa Orsini hosted the 2025 Naples Seabee Ball, a prestigious event celebrating the rich legacy of the U.S. Navy. The evening, held in the utmost secrecy for security reasons, welcomed 400 guests who came from all parts of the world to commemorate three important anniversaries of the U.S. Navy: the 83rd anniversary of the Military Engineers, the 158th anniversary of the Naval Corps of Engineers, and the 183rd anniversary of the Infrastructure Engineering Systems Command.

Seabees: builders and defenders of the U.S. Navy

The Seabees, a construction unit of the U.S. Navy, are an elite corps specializing in building military infrastructure in wartime scenarios and under extreme conditions. Founded in 1942 during World War II, they combine engineering skills and operational capabilities, building bases, roads, bridges and structures critical to naval and land missions.

In addition to their strategic role in the military, Seabees are at the forefront of relief and reconstruction operations in natural disasters. They have intervened in catastrophic events such as hurricanes Camille, Andrew, George, Mitch, Katrina, Ivan and Maria, as well as the Haiti earthquake, providing essential support to affected communities. They have also been working in different areas of the world for over sixty years, bringing aid and improving living conditions in the most remote and needy areas.

The event program

Guests were welcomed at 5:30 p.m. with a delicious cocktail reception, the perfect opportunity to socialize and soak in the atmosphere of the event. At 7:00 p.m. the evening officially began, giving way to the institutional moments and scheduled speeches.

The gala dinner was the heart of the event, during which guests enjoyed a sophisticated menu in the unique atmosphere of the villa. Later, at 10 p.m., the evening took a more convivial turn with the most anticipated moment, which was the traditional Seabee Ball.

During the evening, Giancarlo Ruggiero, the Mayor of Mirabella Eclano, spoke: “Your presence here is a source of pride for us, a testament to the excellent institutional relations that there have been, are and will be between Italy and the United States. In the first decades of the 1900s, so many of our fellow citizens were forced to emigrate to the United States in search of work and fortune. These ancestors of ours were welcomed with love and brotherhood. And this we have not forgotten!”

Prominent speakers at the event included FLTCM Lateef M. Compton, Captain of the Europe/Africa Fleet of the U.S. Naval Forces, and Rafael A. Miranda, Captain of the Naval Engineers and Commander of U.S. Navy Infrastructure Engineering Systems.
