Concordat marriage documents and publications
Concordat or canonical marriage is a religious rite celebrated by a Catholic minister of religion, to which the State associates the same effects as a civil rite.
Concordant marriage documents
In order to initiate the canonical marriage process, it is essential to gather a series of documents. For the matrimonial investigation, it will be necessary to have:
- valid identity documents;
- self-certification to be completed at the civil status office;
- revenue stamp.
On the other hand, for the religious wedding, it will be important to be in possession of:
- baptismal certificates;
- confirmation certificates;
- certificates of ecclesiastical free status;
- certificate of participation in the premarital course;
- ecclesiastical authorisation.
Concordat marriage publications
The publications for a concordat marriage are a fundamental step. They consist of the publication of notices of the intention to marry at both the Municipal House and the bride and groom’s parishes for at least eight days (including two Sundays). This process allows anyone who knows of valid impediments to report them to the competent authorities. Publications are required for both canonical and civil marriages.
Concordat and civil marriage: the difference
The main difference between concordat and civil marriage lies in the ceremony. Canonical marriage provides for a religious ceremony celebrated in a church, followed by the registration of the marriage at the civil registrar’s office. On the other hand, civil marriage is only legal, celebrated by a civil official and registered without an associated religious ceremony.
We look forward to seeing you at Villa Orsini!
We would like to remind you that the civil wedding ceremony can also be celebrated in the gardens of our wedding villa in Mirabella Eclano, a few kilometres from the main cities of Campania and Molise. For more information on canonical weddings or, more generally, on organising a wedding banquet in our period residence, we invite you to contact us through the appropriate form or via WhatsApp. We will be happy to answer any of your questions and invite you to the villa for a get-to-know-you meeting.
